Clinical Psychology 

The Department of Clinical Psychology has started functioning in March 2011 and is providing services on an outpatient and inpatient basis. The general outdoor runs on all working days where evaluation, management and follow-ups are performed. Services offered include IQ assessment, psycho diagnostics, personality & neuropsychological assessment, cognitive retraining, psychotherapy & counselling (individual, family & group). Group therapy sessions are being conducted (along with PSW department) for ADHD & Conduct Disorder (separately for children & parents), Mental Retardation (for parents), OCD, substance abuse, dementia and life-skill education (for adolescents). The Department is also planning to expand its functioning the area of Behavioural Medicine, i.e. use of psychological services in general medical conditions including burn cases, cancer, HIV/AIDS, gynaecological problems, cardio-vascular disease, pre- and post- surgery cases, dermatological issues, diabetes etc.

A. Services:

Clinical work in the department is through Outpatient clinics and Inpatient services. The general outpatient runs 6 days a week with both evaluation and management and follow ups. Services offered in terms of:

  • Psychological Assessment for Diagnostic Clarification
  • Personality Assessment
  • Forensic Psychological Assessment
  • Neuropsychological Assessment and cognitive retraining
  • Psychotherapy and Counselling (individual, family & group)

Group Therapy sessions are available (along with Psychiatric Social Work Department) for the following groups:
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Group (for children)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Group (for parents)
  • Conduct Disorder Group (for children)
  • Conduct Disorder Group (for parents)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Group
  • Substance Abuse Management Group
  • Life Skill Education for Adolescents

B. Training:

Department of Clinical Psychology has opened a training programme of M.Phil in Clinical Psychology as a full time 2 year long course.

Other Activities / Services

  • The Department also provides inputs to the student/trainees of various courses (Psychiatry, Psychiatric Social Work, Physiotherapy, Nursing etc.) with regard to relevant parts of their syllabi.
  • Psychological Assessment for Diagnostic Clarification
  • The Department is also pleased to provide counselling services to the trainees coming from several departments of IPGME&R as well as other medical colleges.
  • The Department of Psychology also takes active part in offering guidance through seminars to the Service providers to the patients (Nurses and Group D staff).
